Editorial: a “former senior official” who claimed “Kim Kyong Hui poisoned”

Tuesday 12th May, 2015

There have been various media reports regarding someone who claims to be a former senior official surnamed Park, who alleged that Kim Jong Un ordered for the assassination of his aunt Kim Kyong Hui.

The only independent news agency established, owned and editorially informed through North Koreans verified to have come from the highest levels of the system, New Focus is in close contact with and selectively features details of interviews with former officials who have been vetted as to their background resume, and whose testimonies have been confirmed as structurally consistent and accurate.

We cannot confirm the existence of a recently defected senior official by the surname of Park, or by any other name, who “worked closely with Jang Song Thaek” or was in any position to have knowledge about the reported claims.

Senior former officials of the DPRK we spoke to unanimously expressed suspicions of fraud with regard to the defector’s alleged connections and background.
